I received a letter in the mail now what?

If you have received a referral letter from Teen Court it is important to contact Teen Court right away at 808-969-7838

If we are not in the office, leave a message for us with your name, your child’s name and a phone number to contact you. On the phone we will go over the following:

An overview of our program

Set up an intake interview

Explain the hearing process

Answer any questions you may have

Why should my child go to Teen Court? I could just go to Family Court right?

It is best to speak with a lawyer about your child’s specific case and to choose an option that is best for your child and families needs. What we can tell you are the following benefits:

1. Teen Court is a FREE program

2. Our goal is to “Restore Justice” meaning your child will learn from his/her mistake and give back to the community

3. At the completion of all program requirements the charges are taken off your child’s record.

4. After completion of the program your child will be afforded the opportunity to volunteer, receive leadership/attorney training, and give back to their community.

5. Your child will be able to tell their story to a jury of their peers. The judge, attorneys, and jury are all teenagers too!

6.Free Pizza for all youth participants on hearing nights

Has my child completed his/her requirements?

If you would like to know the status of your child’s Teen Court requirements give us a call! 969-7838 We will be happy to let you know what he/she has completed and what they still need to turn in.  If it is past the deadline we recommend YOUR CHILD call us and explain his/her reasons as to why they have not completed the requirements. In some circumstances we are able to give extensions. However, in the majority of cases, if requirements are incomplete the file goes back to Family Court.
